From 21 May to 21 July 2010, St. Petersburg will host the XVIII White Stars Music Festival sponsored by VTB Bank. During the eight weeks of the Festival more than 90 opera and ballet performances, symphonic and chamber concerts will be held, including solo performances of the international stars.
The concept of the festival traditionally comprises the works of Russian and foreign composers. However, this summer festival will see innovations, in particular, thematic three-four days programs will be performed at the end of every week. They will be dedicated to significant art and classic music events as well as creative work of some famous composers of the XIX-XX centuries.
The Festival will be opened with a large-scale program coinciding with the celebration of the Year of Russia in France and the Year of France in Russia. Valery Gergiev will be the conductor of the program. Gerard Depardieu, a friend and admirer of the Mariinsky Theatre, will for the first time act as a reciter in the in Tsar Edip opera play.
The Festival will represent world-famous performers and orchestras, ballet and opera premiers. The spectators will see and hear the best soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, in particular, Ildar Abdrazakov, Olga Borodina, Vladimir Galuzin, Vasily Gerello, Aleksey Markov, Anna Netrebko, Ulyana Lopatkina and others.
