VTB Bank has rendered financial support to the 13th Russian Art Festival to be held in Cannes from 23 to 27 August.
The Festival of 2010 coincides with the Year of Russia in France and the Year of France in Russia and is one of the brightest and most significant cultural events of the year.
Traditionally, Russia has been represented by regions, and this year it will be our north capital – St. Petersburg. The colorful program to be presented in the French Riviera includes Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre and the Song and Dance Company of the Leningrad Military District, young soloists from the Mariinsky Opera and the exhibition of the State Museum-Reserve Pavlovsk, a unique street theatre Mr Pejo’s Wandering Dolls and “A Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow” collection by the famous fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin. The Republic of Khakassia will be the second guest of the Festival to acquaint the audience with the wonderful and original art of the region.
Another interesting event of the Festival is Cinema Day. New Russian films will be presented by such directors as Valery Todorovsky, Vera Glagoleva and Evgeniya Dobrovolskaya. Special respect will be paid to Sergei Bondarchuk, with “War and Peace” famous epic devoted to his 90th anniversary.
The Russian Night, held as a tradition, will present the celebrated French chansonnier Charles Aznavour, who will be awarded with Badge of Honor “For contribution to strengthening cultural relationships between Russia and France”. This award had been granted to Maurice Druon, Michel Legrand, Pierre Cardin, Marina Vlady and Mireille Mathieu.
