On October 3, 2012, VTB Bank donated 900,000 roubles (about $30,000) for neonatal equipment to a regional children’s hospital in Kazan as part of its corporate charity programme World without Tears.
A specialised medical bed for extended massage sessions for newborns and infants will enable the hospital to treat and rehabilitate babies with complex neurological conditions.
This year, Russia introduced new standards for the rehabilitation of extremely low birthweight (500 g) or very preterm infants as part of a wider healthcare modernisation programme. One in every three preterm infants has a severe neural condition which often leads to disability. The new equipment helps to stimulate peripheral nerve terminals in the baby’s skin and muscles effectively, sending signals to the central nervous system. This kind of treatment has a beneficial effect on the respiratory and blood circulation system of infants with neural conditions and makes the treatment of pareses and paralyses more effective.
Actress Natalya Bochkaryova, who starred in the Happy Together series on TNT channel, was the event’s celebrity ambassador. Bochkaryova actively participates in various fundraising projects and focuses in particular on the country’s youngest patients.
As with all World without Tears events, VTB, together with the characters of long-running TV show Good-night, Little Ones held a special fun-filled event just for children and gave out presents to the hospital’s young patients. A Kamaz racing truck drove to the hospital at VTB’s request and the Kamaz rally crew held a quiz for the children and gave prizes to the winners. KAMAZ Master's young pilot Anton Shibalov, a Silkway Rally 2012 prize winner, attended the event.
In 2012, the World without Tears programme went to Nizhni Novgorod, Cheboksary, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Kemerovo and Izhevsk. Similar events will be also held in Yekaterinburg and Samara as well as in several hospitals in Moscow. The programme’s annual budget is 15 million roubles ($482,625). The money will be used to purchase medical equipment and pharmaceuticals for children’s hospitals.
