Vneshtorgbank is deeply involved in co-operation with the defence industry complex, focusing on support for high-tech industries. Since 2000, the Bank has been the General Sponsor of the publication "Russian Arms and Technologies in the XXI Century", intended mainly to present products, technologies and achievements of the domestic defence industry in the Russian and International markets.
A presentation of the next regular encyclopaedia volumes took place in Moscow on 17 April 2006 in President-Hotel and was attended by Russian President Administration representatives, the Russian Government Office, heads of Ministries, Departments and enterprises of the defence industry. The following books were presented to the guests: "Anti-aircraft defence and anti-missile defence", "Aircraft weaponry and avionics", "Optoelectronic systems and laser equipment" as well as supplement "Submarine forces of Russia. 1906-2006" issued by the "Arms and technologies" Publishing House especially to the centenary of the national submarine fleet.
Today, 11 volumes of the encyclopaedia, edited by the Russian Defence Minister Sergey Ivanov, have been published. Two more volumes are expected to be released next year.
"Co-operation with defence enterprises is one of Vneshtorgbank's priorities, with its share of services for domestic defence industry steadily tending to grow. VTB credit portfolio aimed at financing the defence complex, including loans made for industrial retooling, was over 30 billion roubles in 2005," said Valery Lukyanenko, VTB Senior Vice President at the presentation.
According to Lukyanenko, volume of guarantees and export/import letters of credit issued and opened within the past year by the Bank exceeded USD2 billion. Owing to VTB's high business reputation in Russia and abroad, more foreign customers accept direct guarantees of the Bank as security for liabilities against deliveries to Russian counterparties.
"Energetic position of Russia in the arms market and agreements reached in this connection with foreign customers give assurance that VTB participation in financing the defence industry and in implementing projects and programmes under military technical co-operation with other nations will only increase," remarked Valery Lukyanenko.
At present, over 100 important defence enterprises and entities are customers of Vneshtorgbank, among them Rosoboronexport federal unitary enterprise, Sukhoy company, Yuri Gagarin aircraft corporation in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Irkut corporation, MiG Russian aircraft corporation, Sevmash corporation, Severnaya Verf shipbuilding plant, Admiralteysky shipyard, Tactical Missiles Corporation, Ulan-Ude aircraft works, and Almaz-Antei concern.
