On April 24, the State Tretyakov Gallery (10, Krymsky Val, Moscow) first displayed the paintings by French artists from the second half of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century from collection of the Orsay Museum in Paris. The exhibition is organized with Vneshtorgbank's financial support.
For its jubilee exhibition, the Orsay Museum presented 38 world masterpieces of painting including Edouard Manet`s 'Le Balcon' and 'Portrait d`Emile Zola', Edgar Degas's 'L`Orchestre de l`Opera', Claude Monet's 'La Gare Saint-Lazare' and 'DeBacle sur la Seine', Auguste Renoir's 'Danse a la Compagne', Vincent Van Gogh's 'La Nuit Etoilee' and 'L`Italienne', Paul Gauguin's 'Jeune Fille a l`Eventail', Camille Pissarro's 'Les Toits Rouges' and works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Cezanne and others. Besides, the public will be shown 17 sculptures by such well-known sculptors as Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin and Aristide Maillol.
This grand cultural event is held within the project "World Museums Congratulate the Tretyakov Gallery" and dedicated to the National Gallery's 150th anniversary.
"We are pleased that it is Vneshtorgbank that is honoured to introduce the most significant and large-scale event of the year to the Russian public. There is no doubt that experts and connoisseurs of French art will be delighted with the masterpieces first exhibited in Russia," said Andrey Kostin, VTB's CEO, at the opening ceremony.
It is not for the first time that Vneshtorgbank cooperates with the State Tretyakov Gallery. In February 2004, the Bank sponsored a unique exhibition 'A Meeting Across the Century. Rodin. Golubkina. Claudel'. In June 2004, Vneshtorgbank offered financial support to the Tretyakov Gallery in housing the exhibition 'Boris Kustodiev' devoted to the 125th anniversary of the painter. A retrospective exhibition of Marc Chagal 'Hello, Motherland!' was held in 2005 with VTB's direct assistance.
VTB is also a member of the Museum's Board of Trustees.
