Weekly CPI

According to a report released by Rosstat, CPI increased 0.14% on 1-10 December. Average daily price growth stood at 0.014% last week, slightly below the 0.016% recorded on 6-12 December 2011.

The detailed breakdown shows that last week’s growth came mainly from WoW price rises in eggs (2.1%), potatoes (1.0%), cabbage (1.0%) and milk (0.3%). Furthermore, fruit and vegetable prices continued to accelerate last week, rising 0.6% WoW vs. 0.5% WoW growth in the previous week.

Inflation readings for last week were broadly unchanged from the previous reported period. Given that during the first ten days of December prices added a mere 0.14%, we see significant downsize risks to our full-month CPI growth of 6.8% YoY in December. However, fruit and vegetables prices continued to rise, posing additional inflation risks.
